CRUST – a baking company Announces Plans for National Donut Day, June 3:
Charitable Giving and Opening of the Donut Vault Part of Donut Day Plans
FENTON, MI - CRUST in Downtown Fenton has big plans to celebrate the 79th - Annual National Donut Day on Friday, June 3. CRUST will open its doors at 6:00 a.m.
with a special assortment of their award-winning donuts available for
purchase while they last. CRUST Cares, the bakery’s community
fundraising program, will donate 10% of the day’s sales to Fenton’s Meet
Up and Eat Up summer lunch program for area students. The program is
offered by Fenton Area Public Schools in partnership with the USDA and
ensures all children ages 18 and under are able to enjoy a free hot
meal, regardless of household income.
Donut Day was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor the
men and women who served donuts and offered comfort to American soldiers
behind the front lines during World War I. During the war, Salvation
Army workers established canteens or social centers called “huts” that
served baked goods, provided writing supplies and stamps, and offered
basic services to soldiers, like clothes-mending. As often as possible,
donuts and hot coffee were carried to troops in the trenches to bring
comfort and supplement rations.

honoring the sentiment of the day – giving back to an organization that
ensures kids in our community have access to a good meal all summer long

Meet Up and Eat Up summer lunch program is partially funded by the
USDA, but Fenton Area Public Schools’ Food Service covers costs incurred
beyond USDA funding. A donation from CRUST Cares will help offset those
expenses and allow for the purchase baby food items and additional
fresh fruit and vegetables. Last year, the Fenton Meet Up and Eat Up
program served between 80 and 225 meals per day. For more information
