A December Concert of Classic and Jazz Favorites

The Fenton Community Orchestra (FCO) and Fenton High School (FHS) Jazz Orchestra invite you to join them for their December Concert Celebration. The concert will take place at the Fenton High School Ruby Zima Auditorium on Friday, December 11th at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free
(donations are appreciated). Fenton High School is located at 3200 W. Shiawassee Ave. Fenton, MI 48430.

FCO and FHS Jazz Orchestra will perform a variety of classical, holiday and jazz standards under the baton of Conductor Mr. Andrew Perkins. FCO will perform well known works like Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24, Tchaikovsky’s Final Scene from Swan Lake, and two pieces from The Nutcracker. The Fenton Jazz Orchestra will have your foot tapping to favorites like Duke Ellington’s C-Jam Blues and Sandoval’s Mambo Caliente.

“We are receiving phenomenal community support and increasing in number and skill of musicians,” said, FCO Executive Director Jennifer Fleck. “Last year our stage was filled with more than 70 musicians and the auditorium was standing room only! Our sixth season kicked off this September with an influx of more string players AND notice that we received a $10,000 matching grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Our Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, December 10 is becoming an event of its own. From 6-6:30 students from Prelude Strings (a beginning string orchestra in Fenton and Hartland) will perform. The FCO concert ‘run through’ will be from 7-8pm. We are again working with the Fenton High School Chapter of the Key Club to invite and welcome area senior citizen groups and students from an FHS Foods & Nutrition class will provide refreshments.” "Fenton High School is proud to host the Fenton Community Orchestra,” said FHS Principal Mark Suchowski. “The FCO provides our students the opportunity to collaborate in music performance beyond the classroom with members of our local community. The experience is rewarding for all who are involved."

“Our community support is incredible,” added John Andersen, President of the FCO Board. “That support combined with the grants (from MCACA and the NEA) have allowed us to not just continue but to increase the events we are able to provide for Fenton. We are working together with many community groups and businesses to bring fantastic orchestral music to our area.”

The next big event the orchestra is planning is a Red Carpet Gala on February 27, 2016 in which the orchestra will perform an original movie score by Andrew David Perkins LIVE to a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. While this event is set to be a fundraiser for FCO, it will be a completely unique cultural event and a fantastic night out. It will be held at the Fenton Community and Cultural Center. Tickets will go on sale starting December 11.

Fenton Community Orchestra is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

FCO is a community - supported orchestra that provides a place for musicians of all ages to connect through music by offering an educational and entertaining music program for its members and audiences. FCO is under the musical direction of Mr. Andrew Perkins, Director of Bands for Fenton Area Public Schools and is governed by the FCO Board of Directors.
